Warm, dry, and citrus
Gold Medal, Maryland Governor’s Cup, 2021
The most ripe and concentrated Chardonnay yet from Antietam Creek VIneyards. The warm and dry vintage produced aromas of hay and citrus while barrel aging contributed subtle spice and a rich mouthfeel due to the practice of bâtonnage, the periodic stirring of yeast lees in the barrel. For 2019 we reduced the percentage of wine put through the secondary malolactic fermentation. This resulted in retaining more of the grape’s natural acidity. Aged in 100% French oak barrels for 8 months.
